Darlene M.Β  Smith, 77, of Cornell, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2020, at her home following a lengthy illness.

She was born in Escanaba on October 27, 1942, daughter of Aldrick and Dorina (LaForest) Therrian. Darlene attended Holy Name High School, Class of 1961.

On May 11, 1963 Darlene married Donald Smith at Holy Family Church in Flat Rock. They recently celebrated their 57-year wedding anniversary.

Darlene worked for Mary Janes Catering Service for 30 years and also worked for Linda Roberts Catering.

She was a member of Holy Family Church and the Alter Society. Darlene enjoyed going to the casino, gardening and also loved her one glass of wine a day.

In addition to her husband, Donald of Cornell and biological mother, Lorraine Simpson of Kingsman, AZ; she is survived by a daughter, Laurie (Pat) Alworden, their children Christina (Alex) Popovic and Zack Alworden; a son, Kevin (Wendy) Smith and their children, Tyler and Sarah Smith; and one great grandson, Solomon Smith.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Holy Family Church in Flat Rock.Β  Burial will immediately follow in Escanaba Twp. Cemetery.

    So very sorry for the loss of your Mom. I’m sure you will find solace in the fact that she is no longer suffering.
    I know she went through a lot. May she rest in peace.
    I’ll always remember when Dennis & I ran into her & your Dad at the Yooper Picnic in Lake Havasu. (Unknowingly, that each of us would be there!)
    She seemed as happy as I was to see “family”! We had the nicest & longest visit, ever! : )
