Barbara J. Robitaille, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2015 at OSF St. Francis Hospital.
She was born on September 2, 1931 in Ann Arbor, MI, daughter of Violet Pilecki. Barbara was raised and graduated from high school in Grand Rapids.
At the age of 18, with the passing of her mother, Barbara moved to Escanaba to reside with her grandmother. She married John Robitaille at St. Patrick’s Church in Escanaba on March 31, 1951.
While raising her children, Barbara continued her education, becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. In later years, she was accepted into the first Registered Nurse program offered through Bay de Noc Community College, obtaining her RN in 1981 at the age of 50.
Over the years, Barbara was employed with St. Francis Hospital, as a nurse at Doctor’s Park for a local physician, OSF Home Health, and Christian Park Health Care Center. She also served as a hospice volunteer and participated on a mission trip to Honduras. She loved to keep busy and was passionate about her crafts: sewing, ceramics, quilting, painting, and porcelain doll-making.
She was a long time member of St. Anne’s Church where she was very active, contributing her time to funeral luncheons and other areas where she was needed.
Survivors include her husband, John, of Escanaba; four daughters, Debra (Brian) Boden of Flat Rock, Sandy Richards of Gladstone, Mary (Paul) Van Hese of Rochester, MI and Gail Faust of Gladstone; grandchildren, Jayme, Joe, and Jeremy (Dana) Boden, Sarah (Phil) Miron, Tyler Richards, Christie Van Hese, Katie (Chris) Rodela, Emily Franks and Hannah Faust; and five great grandchildren.
In addition to her mother, Violet, she was preceded in death by her grandson, John Richards.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 5th from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 6 p.m. at St. Anne’s Church with Rev. Fran DeGroot officiating.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
