Arnold E. Berg, 89, of Escanaba, MI, our beloved Arnie, father and grandfather passed away on March 6, at St. Francis Hospital. He was born November 26, 1928, in Gladstone, Michigan, to Alex and Ida (Soderman) Berg. After Ida’s passing, he was raised by Emma, his stepmother. He graduated from Gladstone High School in 1946 and then he served in the Army from 1947-1949. He married Patricia Kenneally on December 31, 1949 at St. Anthony’s Parish.

Arnold attended Northern Michigan University. After this, he worked for Clairmont Transfer and CU Processing as a computer operator until his retirement in 1985. He was a long standing member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. In 2010, he resided at Christian Park Health Care Center until his death.

Arnie enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, a good game of cribbage, and going to the casino. His wife and he were fond of eating meals with their friends at the Senior Center.

Arnold was a loyal husband and a loving father. His gentle easy-going nature made a lasting impression on all those who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Vera Mills, Kenneth Berg, and Alice Johnson.

Surviving family members include his wife, Patricia, who resides at Christian Park Health Care Center; daughter, Julie (Bob) Zielinski of St. Johns MI; his son, Gary Berg of Escanaba; and grandchildren, Jamie (Zielinski) Witt, Jenna Zielinski, Robin Berg, Jason Berg, Stacey Millgren and Michael Millgren.

Visitation will be on Friday, March 10th from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. The Delta County Veterans Council will have military rites at 2 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev Emmett Norden officiating.

Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the family.

  1. Pat, Gary and Julie and families my sympathy and prayers in the passing of Arnie. May He RIP.

  2. I was very sorry to hear of Mr. Berg’s passing. Arnie and my Dad were such good friends. We, i.e. Richards’ Siblings, all considered Mr. Berg to be our friend too. I can remember that nothing but kind words were spoken by Mr. Berg.

    Please be assured that the Berg and extended Berg Families are in my thoughts and prayers.
