Evelyn “Babe” Quist, 95, of Bark River, passed away Monday April 24, 2017 at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers.

She was born in Escanaba on February 9, 1922, daughter to Delore and Mary (Motto) Cota and raised in Wilson. She graduated from Harris High School, class of 1939.

Babe married Rodger Quist on February 22, 1941 at St. George Church in Bark River. They had 67 years of married life in the same house in Bark River that Rodger was raised in. Many summers were spent in Iron Mountain at Rivers Bend Campground. Babe continued to live in the house until her move to Pinecrest Medical Facility in 2013.

Babe was very active in her church and community. She was a busy mother and homemaker in the early years. Later she worked along with Rodger in the family business, Tony’s Green Thumb. She was a Eucharistic Minister at church for many years. In her later years she enjoyed writing letters as her past time.

Many people remember her for her famous Kringles. She lost count of how many she made over the years. Most people in the Bark River area have had a taste.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary Lou (Roger VanBeek) Nelson and Janis (LeRoy) L’Huillier, both of Menominee; three sons, Tony (Jon Flath) Quist, of Bark River, Delore (Cathy) Quist of Milwaukee, and James (Carol) Quist of Carney; nine grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren; three nieces, two nephews and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Rodger, baby daughter Evelyn; sisters, Shirley Britton and Rose Konkel; brother, Antone Cota and son in law, Dale Nelson.
