Bernie W. Ramile, 73, of Escanaba, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2016 at UP Health System-Marquette.

Bernie, son of Lawrence “Larry” and Kathleen “Kitty” (Gardipee) Ramile, was born on October 20, 1943 in Marquette. He was raised in Little Lake and graduated from Gwinn High School in 1961. Upon graduation, he attended Dunwoody Institute of Mechanics in Minneapolis. Bernie also received an Associate’s Degree from Bay College.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from October 1966 until October 1968, earning a National Defense Service Medal and Sharpshooters Badge.

Bernie owned and operated Ramile Trucking Inc., an independent postal route contractor. In addition to owning his own business, over the course of his career, Bernie was a claims adjuster and supervisor for Citizens Insurance and a parts manager for both Northern Motors and Bero Motors. He also worked in the sales department for Superior Auto Glass and NAPA.

On October 3, 2009 he married Linda Bugay at St. Anne’s Church in Escanaba.

Bernie enjoyed reading, especially Consumer Reports and auto magazines. He thrived on teaching himself new skills and being able to figuring things out on his own. He had a love for watching baseball and was a lifelong fan of the Braves, which started with Milwaukee and continued on with their move to become the Atlanta Braves. Bernie was a huge Packers fan, through thick and thin, and he passed that passion along to his sons. He was a collector of memorabilia, knick-knacks and anything that held sentimental value. Most dear to him was time spent with family, especially all of his grandchildren.

Bernie had a happy disposition and it was rare to see him without a smile on his face. When he wasn't cracking a silly joke, he was telling a story. He was a kind person that really took the time to get to know those around him and gave everyone the benefit of the doubt. He will be missed terribly by all of those that loved him, which was many.

Among survivors include his wife, Linda; four children, Clif Ramile of Cumming, GA, Chris Saavedra of Phoenix, AZ, Carole (Gavin) Cummins of Junction City, KS and Brian (Melissa) Ramile of Atlanta, GA and former spouse and mother of aforementioned children Bonnie Forton: Linda’s children, Cheri (Matthew) Johnson of Marquette, Rich (Lori) Bugay of Escanaba, and Ron (Angela) Bugay of Spring Lake, MI; grandchildren, Kristin Ramile, Brandon Ramile, Christian Saavedra, Elizabeth Hegler, Dustin Vann, Cameron Wolf, Ivy Everard, Jacey and Cole Johnson, Morgan Debelak, Collin, Lena and Lola Bugay; sister, Lynn (Phil) George of Escanaba; nieces, Tonya Mata and Tara George.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 18th from 3-6 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. The Delta County Veterans Council will have Military rites at 5 p.m. and parish prayers will conclude the visitation hours at 6 p.m. Visitation will also take place on Monday, December 19th beginning at 10 a.m. at St. Anne’s Church in Escanaba until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. Fran DeGroot officiating. A meal will follow in the church hall.

Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
