Edward Allen ďEdĒ Blahnik, 71, of Perronville, passed away on Monday evening, November 28, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family following a year-long battle with cancer.

He was born on April 16, 1945 in Ashland, WI, son of James and Rosalie (Margetta) Blahnik. As a young child, Edís family relocated from Wisconsin to Wilson and then to Perronville. He graduated from Powers Spalding High School.

Ed served in the U.S. Army from October 5, 1965 until his honorable discharge on October 4, 1967. He was honored with the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

On April 19, 1969, Ed married the former Irene Wieciech at St. Brunoís Church in Chicago.

Ed and Irene lived in Chicago for ten years and he worked as their parts man at International Harvester. When they returned to the Bark River area in 1976, Ed was employed with Escanaba Machine.

Ed was an avid volunteer. He enjoyed helping with the Lionís Club, Bark River American Legion and was a past member of both the Knights of Columbus and Kiwanis.

He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church where he served as an usher. When he was a member of St. Michaelís Church in Perronville, he was actively involved in the Holy Name Society.

Additionally, Ed was an avid sports enthusiast and had a love of the outdoors.

Ed was a goodheartedly person who had a soft spot for everyone, he will be missed by all.

Among survivors include his wife, Irene of Perronville; two daughters, Kim (Scott) Murray of Howell, MI and Cheryl (Eric) Dinkel of Milford, MI; brothers and sisters, Jim (Darlene) Blahnik of Wilson, John (Joanne) Blahnik of Gross Point Farms, MI, Linda (Leonard) Nord of Perronville, Patrick Blahnik of Perronville, Wayne (Cindy) Blahnik of Gladstone and Jan (William) Bower of Eustis; his grandchildren who meant the world to him, Macy and Lucas Murray and Edward Dinkel; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Greg Blahnik.

Visitation will be on Friday, December 2nd from 3 Ė 6 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Bark River. The Bark River American Legion will have military rites at 5 p.m. and parish prayers will conclude the evening at 6 p.m.
Visitation will also take place on Saturday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. which will be officiated by Rev. Darryl Pepin. A meal will follow in the church hall.

Burial will be at 2 p.m. at St. Michaelís Cemetery in Perronville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family. Memorials in Edís name will be established at a later date.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Blahnik family.
