John H. “Jake” Chaillier, 76, of Escanaba, passed away on Monday evening, October 24, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born on October 2, 1940 in Escanaba, son of George and Vina (Bouchard) Chaillier Sr. Jake attended Soo Hill and New Hall Schools and was a lifelong resident of Escanaba.

Jake served in the Army from 1958 until his honorable discharge in 1960.

On December 1, 1962, Jake married Sharon Lantagne at Holy Family Church in Flat Rock.

Jake worked as an iron worker for Local 8, retiring as general foreman in 1998.

He was an avid outdoorsman who loved spending time at camp with his family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, hobby farming, and working in his yard. Jake enjoyed riding his bike and visiting with friends and family along the way.

Jake was a member of the Highland Golf club where he was involved in the senior men’s golf league and won the green jacket one year.

He was a member of St. Anthony Church in Wells.

Among survivors include his wife, Sharon of Escanaba; three children, John (Patricia), Brad (Maureen) and Rhonda Hebert all of Escanaba; 11 grandchildren and one great granddaughter; five brothers and sisters, George (Lenore) Jr. of Escanaba, Roberta Mileski of California, Charlene (John) Fatherree of Oklahoma, Tom of Escanaba and Lynn (Lanny) Fudala of Escanaba; sister in law, Joan Lantagne; brothers in law, Orville (Mary Lou) Lantagne and Jon Servant; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Rose; sister in law, Marlene Servant and brother in law, Ronald Lantagne.

Visitation will be on Thursday, October 27th from 9 – 11:30 a.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. The Delta County Veterans Council will have military rites at 10:30 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12 noon at St. Anthony’s Church with Rev. Rick Courier officiating.

Burial will take place in Gardens of Rest Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
