Carlene Marie Cousineau, age 65, of Marquette, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Thursday, October 6, 2016 while visiting her father, Don Cousineau in Escanaba.

Carlene was born on April 29th, 1951 in Alpena, MI, she was the only daughter of Donald C. Cousineau and the late Thelma Cousineau. She was a 1969 graduate of Holy Name Catholic Central High School in Escanaba, Michigan. She later graduated from Bay de Noc Community College with a Licensed Practical Nursing degree and started on her lifelong journey of caring for people.

Carlene had a passion for helping people and was able to fulfill it by nursing throughout her life: first at St. Mary's in Marquette; next at Bell Hospital in Ishpeming; at the offices of Dr. Scholnik and Arnold; with Lake Superior Home Health and Hospice; and as a private duty caregiver to elderly patients. She also spent 15 plus years working at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and helped patients navigate their way through the complicated paths of health insurance. She also cared for everyone she met and was always willing to lend a hand or offer support.

Carlene's passion for helping people was only surpassed by her love for her two children and six grandchildren. Her greatest joy in life was watching her grandchildren, and honorary grandchildren, grow and thrive. She would often be spotted at hockey and baseball games; school concerts; volunteering in the classroom; and other events.

Carlene was Fun with a capital F. She was bright and flashy and was never afraid to speak her mind. She was a devout Democrat and loved posting about her love for Hillary Clinton (she will be so disappointed she didn't get a chance to vote for her in November). Carlene loved hard and deeply. She loved taking in "strays" and giving them her love. She was "Mom #2" to many of her children's friends and "Grandma Carlene" to many more. She was an amazing mom, daughter, sister, and friend. She will be missed by everyone who was ever lucky enough to meet her.

Carlene was preceded in death by her mother, Thelma; and her brother, Mark Cousineau.

She is survived by her two children, Kristen (Scott) Cambensy of Marquette and Kevin (Amy) Smith of Green Bay; her six grandchildren, Mark, Wylen, and Luc Cambensy, Paige, Kennedy, and Nick Smith of Green Bay; father, Donald; her brothers, Donnie (Jayne) of Gladstone, Pete (Michelle) of Wisconsin, and Paul of Escanaba; her five nieces, Heather (Brian) Kaufman of Minnesota, Nadine Cousineau of California, Stacey Cousineau of Escanaba, Aimee (Josh) Plutchak, and Jessica Cousineau; her ex-husband and friend, Jim (Judy) Smith; and her many friends and loved ones including Terry (Rick) Tryan and the remaining friends of the "fearsome foursome, Judy (John) Fisher, Paulette (Bob) Potvin, and Cathy (Randy) Johnson.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 11th from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba, parish prayers will be at 6:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Wednesday, October 12th at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church with Rev. Rick Courier officiating. A meal will follow in the church hall.

Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
