Thomas “Tom” Edward Kwarciany, 69, of Bark River, went to be with his Lord on Monday, May 30,2016 surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy and courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Thomas was born September 11, 1946, in Escanaba, the son of Edward and Drusilla (Hanson) Kwarciany. He graduated from Holy Name High School in 1964 and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Michigan Tech University in 1969. He was drafted after college and enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1974.

He married the former Susan (Gunville) on August 7, 1971, in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He worked for Westinghouse Electric in Chicago, IL, Louisiana Pacific Corporation in Escanaba, and Mead Paper Company, retiring in 2004. He served on the Bark River-Harris Board of Education for four years and served as the treasurer of Bark River Township from 1992-2012. He was an active lifelong member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Bark River, serving time on both the Pastoral and Finance Council, lector and as an altar server for daily mass.

Thomas especially enjoyed deer hunting, traveling with his family and spending time with his beloved grandchildren. His favorite place to visit was Glacier National Park. He was the quintessential hand-man, able to fix just about anything that was broken. He enjoyed camping in Grand Marais and going to the Iola Old Car Show every year.

Tom was survived by his wife, Susan of Bark River; children, Scott (Christina) of Bark River, MI, Steven (Ginny) of Green Bay, WI, Kenneth (Jenny) of Longwood, FL and Kimberly (Thomas) Kareckas of Escanaba; grandchildren, Lauren, Sarah, Nathan, Steven Derek, and Lily Kwarciany, Hannah, Mary and Spencer Kareckas and Britni Fagan; brothers, Dale (Jane) Kwarciany of Escanaba, Randy (Marie) Kwarciany of Gladstone, Donald (Barb) Kwarciany of Milton, WI and Mark (JoAnne) Kwarciany of Bark River; sisters, Diane (Terry) Otradovec and Linda Otradovec all of Bark River; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother in law, Francis Otradovec.

Visitation will be on Friday, June 3rd from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Bark River. The Bark River Rheaume-Knauf American Legion Post 438 will have military services at 6 p.m. Parish prayers will be recited by Deacon Mike LeBeau at 7:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, June 4th at 10 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church with Rev. Darryl Pepin and Rev. Mark McQuesten concelebrating.

Burial will be in the Bark River Twp. Cemetery.

A meal will follow the committal service in the fellowship hall of the Bark River Bible Church.
