LaDene Saxton Snowden was born November 16, 1929 in Barber, Idaho to Leland and Miriam Saxton. She passed away peacefully at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers, MI on Wednesday, May 11, 2016.

LaDene was raised in Boise, Idaho the youngest of five children. Her childhood was spent with her best friend and identical twin sister, LaRene. They were inseparable and shared a bond that even living 2000 miles apart could not break. LaRene passed away in 2014 and even on the morning of her twin sister’s death, LaDene sensed that something wasn’t right with her twin.

LaDene graduated from high school in 1947 and following graduation, she worked as a secretary for the State of Idaho until she met the love of her life, Jerry Snowden, on a blind date in January, 1949. They were married March 4, 1949 and moved to the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan. LaDene shared her love of life and organizational skills in assisting her husband and her father-in-law in their highway contracting business, Snowden Inc. She was secretary, vice president, payroll director, human resources director and numerous other positions. She wore many hats for the over 50 years she worked tirelessly by her husband’s side. She and Jerry raised four children together and worked side by side in their business that continues on through their children.

LaDene was a member of the Escanaba Seventh-Day Adventist Church for almost 60 years. She served as Treasurer, Board Member, Vacation Bible School director, Sabbath School leader and teacher, Social Committee Chairwoman, School Board member and countless unknown capacities. She loved serving her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She loved music and even though she never performed publicly, she was quite an accomplished singer and musician. She loved the Gaither Homecoming concerts and videos. She loved Jeopardy, cryptograms and just about any word puzzle. She believed in Christian education and unselfishly sacrificed time and money to see that her children and other’s children had the opportunity and means to obtain a quality Christian education. But, most importantly, she believed in the grace of Jesus Christ for her eternal salvation and she sleeps in the grave for His soon return where she will be re-united with her loved ones.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry; four children, Randy Snowden (Janet) of Escanaba, Pamela Sahlbom (Mike) of Cedar River, Melanee Davis (Terry) of Winston-Salem, NC and Scott Snowden (Raquel) of Berrien Springs, MI; eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. LaDene was preceded in death by her parents, four siblings, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 28, at 3:00 p.m. at the Escanaba Seventh-Day Adventist Church at 210 S. Lincoln Rd. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in her name to the Escanaba Seventh-Day Adventist Church Worthy Student Fund for Christian education.

LaDene always described herself as a “One Tough Cookie”. Her children describe her as one of the strongest women they have ever known. She believed in a loving God, a loving family and hard work. She lived her life as a daughter of Jesus Christ and gave tireless service to her Savior. She will be terribly missed as a wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

LaDene is in the care of the Crawford Funeral Homes.
