Matthew Paul Sattem, Jr., 40, 110 S. 5th St., Escanaba, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 18, 2013 at his home of natural causes.

He was born on October 12, 1973 in Escanaba, son of Matthew and Lynn (Stone) Sattem, Sr. Matt graduated from Escanaba High School in 1992 and then furthered his education at Michigan State University and Western University.

Following college, Matt resided in Fenton, MI where he was a salesman for Morrison Equipment selling industrial equipment. He excelled at his job and continued in sales when he moved to Sun Prairie, WI. Matt moved back to Escanaba to be with his family because he was dealing with complications from his diabetes and loss of sight.

Matt enjoyed fly-fishing, collecting star wars nostalgia, and watching the Detroit Redwings and he loved the Green Bay Packers, especially former player, Brett Farve. Matt also spent time playing video games, being on his computer and listening to music.

He is survived by his parents, Matthew and Lynn (Stone) Sattem Sr. of Bark River (Ford River Twp.), brother, Michael (Mary Anne Wedell) Sattem of Escanaba; special nephew, Carson Wedell of Escanaba; grandfather, Robert Stone of Rapid River; uncles and aunts, Bob (Cathy) Stone, Randy (Marcia Holmes) Stone, Steve (Jim Cavender) Sattem, Eric Sattem, Jean (John) Ferrari; his cat, Nash of 16 years; and many cousins and friends.

Matt was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Eldred and Edna Sattem; maternal grandmother, Eileen Stone; and uncle, Mark Sattem.

Visitation will be on Thursday, November 21, 2013 from 3 – 6 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. The funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. with Pastor Judy Kincaid from the Immanuel Lutheran Church officiating. A meal will follow in the funeral home dining area.

Burial will be on Friday at 10 a.m. at Gardens of Rest Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the UPCAP/UPDON (U.P. Diabetes Outreach Network), Sight and Diabetic Research Fund of the Escanaba Lions Club, or a charity of ones’ choice.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Sattem family with arrangements.
