Robert A. “Bob” McCarthy, 87, Escanaba, passed away at Christian Park Health Care Center on Sunday, June 14, 2015.

Bob was born in Escanaba on February 28, 1928, son of the late Kenneth and Dorothy Ruth (Beauchamp) McCarthy.

He graduated from St. Joseph High School.
Bob served in the United States Army from August 21, 1946 until he was honorably discharged on January 14, 1948. He received the World War II Victory Medal and Army Occupation Medal Japan.

Bob was employed by Chicago and Northwestern Railroad, Guindon Moving, Johnson Box Company, and retired in the early 1990’s from H.R. Nelson & Sons Logging as a heavy equipment operator.

He enjoyed playing baseball, football, and going boating and fishing. Bob loved to take care of animals of all sizes.

Bob was a member of the Steam and Gas Engine Association and St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church.

He is survived by nieces, Mary (Josh) Busick of Bark River, Lauren (Mike) Nelson-Krall of Cedar Falls, IA, Debra (Dennis) McCarthy-Lowrley of California, Susan McCarthy of Bark River and Karen McCarthy of Escanaba; nephews, Steve (Mary) Nelson of Bark River, Michael McCarthy of Niles, MI, and Kenneth (Amy) McCarthy of California; and sister-in-law, Barbara McCarthy of California.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Kathryn Nelson; brothers, Vernon McCarthy and Kenneth McCarthy; brother-in-law, Harry Nelson; nephews, Robert Nelson and Donald McCarthy; and niece, Kathleen Williams.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2015, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. Delta County Veterans Council will have military rites at 4:15p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 5 p.m. at St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church with Rev. Eric Olson officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made the Delta Animal Shelter.

Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.

The Crawford Funeral homes are assisting the McCarthy family.
