Wayne A. St. Pierre, 82, Escanaba, passed away at St. Francis Hospital on Tuesday, May 19, 2015.

He was born in Escanaba on February 16, 1933, the son of Alvin R. and Lillie M. (Martin) St. Pierre.

Wayne graduated from Escanaba High School in 1952, received a bachelorís degree from Northern Michigan University, a Masterís in Social Work from Wayne State University, enrolled at the Merrill-Palmer Institute in Detroit to study clinical psychology and pursue a career as a college instructor in criminology, and completed his education at the US Army Command and General Staff College.

He proudly served in the United States Army from July 11, 1953, until his retirement as a Lt. Colonel in 1986. Wayne received the National Medal of Defense, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Legion of Merit. He was named chief of LAMCís Social Work Service where he served as class advisor for the U.S. Army Alcohol and Drug Abuse training programs.

Wayne married Dorothy Ruska on January 28, 1954, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church.

He was a member of St. Anneís Church, and served as commander and historian for American Legion Post 82 where he was honored for 20 years of continued service to the American Legion 5th Zoneís annual Oratorical Competition.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy; sons, Terry St. Pierre and Mark (Lynn) St. Pierre; daughter, Cheryl St. Pierre; grandchildren, David Wayne St. Pierre and Dylan John St. Pierre.

He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter in law, Mary St. Pierre.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 22, 2015, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 6 p.m. at St. Anneís Church with Rev. Fran DeGroot officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.

Entombment will be in Gardens on Rest Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, with military services.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the St. Pierre family.
