James Louis “Jim” Johnson, 84, Hyde, passed away on April 10, 2015 at Bishop Noa Home.

He was born on October 27, 1930, son of the late Louis W. and Rose (LaCasse) Johnson.

Jim graduated from Escanaba High School in 1948.

He married Betty J. Steinmetz on February 2, 1952 at St. Joseph Church in Escanaba.

Jim loved farming, gardening, traveling, and collecting and restoring antique tractors. He was a member of 4-H Club, a lifetime member of the Steam and Gas Engine Association, Potato Growers Association, and Soil Conservation where he was named Conservationist of the year in 1976.

He was employed by Pearson Boiler, Escanaba Dairy, Morley Murphy, and was self-employed as a cattle and potato farmer.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Betty; daughters, Pamela (Michael) Maki of Spring Lake, MI, Sandra Lynn (Randy) Thompson of Robards, KY, Debra (Steve) Frazer of Gladstone, Susan (Thomas) Burke of Escanaba; son, Stephen (Gloria) Johnson of Escanaba; sisters, Eileen (Mike) Hayward of Burbank, IL, Blanche Zawada of Springfield, OH; brother, Robert (Shirley) Johnson of Escanaba; sister in law, Rosemary Johnson of Escanaba; 10 grandchildren, Kevin (Kathryn), Kathryn, and Ryan (Kelly) Maki, Justin (Colleen) and Tyler (Heather) Everson, Felicia (Michael) Lockwood, Rebecca and Beth Frazer, Garrett Johnson, Andrew Thompson; 11 great grandchildren, Logan, Connor, Justin J., Kimberly, Autumn, Kaylie, Emily, Olivia, Elliott, Isabelle; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, James G. Johnson; brother, Walter Johnson; and great granddaughter, Josephine.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April, 15, 2015 from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation at 6 p.m. at St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church officiated by Rev. Rick Courier. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Johnson family.
