Our devoted, loving husband, father and grandfather, Kenneth James Viau, 76 of Marion, Iowa, passed away Friday, February 6, 2015 at Living Center East after a spirited struggle with his health.

Ken was born March 13, 1938 in Escanaba, MI to the late Dona and Cecelia Viau. He grew up in Eustis and graduated from Bark River-Harris High School in 1956. On May 10, 1958, Ken married the love of his life, Nancy LeBeau at Sacred Heart Church in Schaffer, MI. The couple resided in the Bark River area until their move to Iowa last year.

Ken worked as an Industrial Engineer at P&H Harnischfeger Corp for many years before moving on to his employment with Lakeshore Inc, where he retired in March of 2000. Ken loved working with the Bark River community as witnessed by his 44 years of service as township clerk. He was also the recording secretary for DCTA for many years. A man of faith, he was an active member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish in Bark River where he served on the parish council, Eucharistic minister, greeter and choir member.

Ken loved sports. He was an avid Green Bay Packers, Detroit Tigers and NASCAR fan (Jeff Gordon). Ken also enjoyed coaching little league for many years. Hunting and building his cabin were some of his greatest passions. Ken always had a long "honey-do" list to complete for Nancy. Ken will be remembered for his kindness, willingness to help, and his bright smile.

Ken is survived by his wife Nancy, daughter Cheryl Johnson of Manchester, IA, son Mike (Loree) Viau of Oostburg, WI, two grandchildren, Ashley (Tyler) Martin and Brandon Johnson. Ken is further survived by his sister Mary Ann (Richard) Sharkey and his brothers Don (Christa) Viau and Bill (Jean) Viau, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. Ken will be greatly missed by his feline companion Shari.

In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his mother and father in law, Emerentine and Joseph LeBeau and son in law Michael Johnson of Swisher, IA.

Friends are asked to gather and celebrate Ken’s journey on Saturday, February 28, 2015 from 9:00 -10:45 a.m. EST at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church followed by a memorial mass at 11:00 a.m. with Father Darryl Pepin officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Unity Point Hospice in Cedar Rapids, IA. Envelopes will be available at the church.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Living Center East and Unity Point Hospice in Cedar Rapids, IA.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Viau family.
