Clifford “Red” E. Dawson, 94, of Escanaba, passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility.

He was born on June 7, 1920 in Escanaba, son of Frank and Catherine (Kluba) Dawson.

Clifford was raised in Escanaba and Hermansville and attended Hermansville School.

Clifford served in the Army from 1941 during WWII in Ardennes and Rhineland. He earned a Good Conduct Medal, POW Medal, American Defense Service Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon W/2 Bronze Battle Starts, one Service Stripe and six Overseas Service Bars. He was honorably discharged in 1945.

On June 1, 1946, Clifford married Rose Ann Dawson in Escanaba. She preceded him in death on December 25, 2004.

Clifford was employed as an engineer for Mead Paper from 1947 until his retirement in 1982.

He was an avid golfer with a career “hole in one” at the Escanaba Country Club. Clifford enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, and wood working. Clifford and Rose loved dancing and danced on the Lawrence Welk Show.

He was a member of St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church.

Among survivors include his daughter, Sherry Dawson of Escanaba; sisters, Catherine Napierta of Powers, Joan (Dave) Buckland and Patricia Snowart of Escanaba; brother, Thomas O. Dawson of Escanaba; and many nieces and nephews, especially Robert and Freda St. John who showed great care and love for Clifford.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 3rd from 2 – 4:30 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. The Delta County Veteran Council will have military rites at 4 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 5 p.m. with Rev. Eric Olson officiating. A meal will follow in the church hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Perspective Adult Care Center, 1401 N. 26th St., Escanaba. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Gardens of Rest Cemetery.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Dawson family.
